TRADITIONAL REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN INDONESIAN AND ENGLISH FOLKTALES

In Toraja, Indonesia and England folktales bring important impact to the community. Indonesia, a folktale is used as medium of entertainment well teaching tool for children. These are told by grandparents, mother, father, or uncles their children grandchildren with aims educate, tell histories, give information about origin names places.This study understand how similarity differences between main characters in Torajanese English folktales. Furthermore, research also studies traditional representation women This uses qualitative method that refers more narrative. With regard data, this research, which an area literary study, narrative events story contain described words, phrases, sentences, involve settings. Based on results our we argue many female Eastern Indonesian subject objectification. The objectification figures carried out form objects sexuality, exchange power, being passive working domestic sphere. finding shows cannot be separated from patriarchal ideology. stories show imagination people still occupy inferior position compared men. experience inequality Western Indonesia.
